21st Jan 2014

Tried to get Gio to stand, with some measure of success. He even walked a few steps, quickly moving to where he could hold something.

22nd Jan 2014 – Weight

Dropped off my wife at the salon then went with Gio to the clinic for his weigh-in.
As usual, he was sweating in the car seat, so I had unbuttoned his romper and removed his arms from it, leaving him bare-chested. The doctor happened to come out as I was about to get him out of the car. We know each other, so we chatted a little.
“Why have his clothes been removed?” he asked.
“He’s sweating!” I replied.
I carried Gio to the reception.
There was a lady there who had also brought a child.
“Fever, eh?” she said to me.
“No, no, he was just hot.”
The lady behind the counter asked “Why have his clothes been removed?”
When I went into the clinic checkup area itself, the nurse also asked why his clothes had been removed.
Four times, the same question.
Is it really that strange to see a child bare-chested?

Gio weighs 11 kilos. In other words, since 8 weeks ago, he has gained 300 grammes!
You could actually say he has gained 300 grammes in 12 weeks, since he attained 10.7 kilos 12 weeks ago.
You could also say he has gained 500 grammes in 20 weeks.
10kg Aug 7th
10.5 kilos Sep 4th
10.7 kilos Oct 26th
10.7 kilos Nov 27th

My wife later asked me if her efforts to feed him avocado had paid off. I told her that her efforts had helped in Gio’s brain development 🙂

While waiting for my wife to finish at the salon, I went with Gio to look at ride-on cars at Nakumatt.

Back home, we tried some more to get Gio to walk.

24th to 27th November 2013 – No Weight Gain

24th November 2013
I was again left with Gio as my wife went to pick her mum and run a few errands. No major drama.

IMG_8052M and S visited (I hope years from now we will still know what the initials mean! 😀 But we have pictures)

25th November 2013
Gio seems to prefer to have me carry him than sit with his grandma. So I still win some 🙂

IMG_8074My wife’s mum said Gio stood independently today.

IMG_8075I was left alone with Gio when my wife drove my mum to her bus.

26th November 2013

IMG_8104Gio usually smiles when he sees himself in the mirror.

Sometimes (when he cries?), Gio rubs his nose repeatedly like this:

27th November 2013 – Clinic – No Weight Gain
Clinic day. I was to go alone with Gio. My wife suggested that we turn Gio’s car seat to face forward, so that Gio can see me while seated. I refused. She said he would cry if we don’t. I still refused.
Off we went. Gio did not cry. He sat a while then slept. In fact, when we reached the clinic, I sat in the car and waited for him to wake up.

IMG_8129Gio’s weight is still 10.7 kg. I checked the scale myself. Nurse was a bit concerned, but reminded herself and me that even at 10.7kg, he is still above normal weight. She asked how many times a day Gio is fed and I did not know! She said maybe he is being fed less than before, hence the decrease in the rate of weight gain. I said I think he is being fed as expected, but we would monitor. I also said he is quite active.
(I was told he is fed five(?) times a day, not counting breastfeeding)

Maybe we should increase Gio’s portions or change the content of his meals.

09th to 11th April 2013 – 11 Weeks

09th April 2013

IMG_8271bWednesday, 10th April 2013

Gio is 11 weeks old today.
We went to the clinic for immunisation. His weight according to the scale there is 7.7kg
Also saw doctor about the things on the side of his face and on his back.
Doc said those are pinworms, and prescribed some medicine.
He also said we should be airing his towel after bathing him

Went shopping for a jacket or sweater for Gio.
Saw some nice rompers.
I told my wife Gio would not wear them for long because he would very soon outgrow them.
“These are like the ones which are now so snug on him.”
“But they are 3 to 6 months and those snug ones are 0 to 3 months.”
“Yes, but this is the baby in question.” I said, indicating Gio who I was carrying.
We bought the disputed rompers and some jackets.

18th to 20th Feb – Weighty Matter

18th Feb

I fired the house help. There will be a blog post about that on my other blog.
My wife went to see the lactation specialist.
I will write a separate post about what the specialist said after I get the info.
(Sorry for the incomplete stuff. I want to clear the backlog so that I can be posting more recent stuff)

19th Feb

New tin of formula. (I’m supposed to be tracking usage)

IMG_6619b

20th Feb – Weight
We gave 160ml of expressed milk, which he finished, but was still showing the rooting reflex.
We added 90ml of formula and that is when he slept.
We should see the paeditrician!

I had weighed myself while carrying Gio and then subtracted my own weight, to arrive at his weight.
“Please weigh yourselves with the baby so we can have an additional opinion”  I said.

Later: “We need to go to the paeditrician! This boy is 6 kilos!”
6 kilos at under a month is a lot. That represents a 2 kilo gain in 4 weeks.

According to this article http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-growth/AN01654 and this one: http://kidshealth.org/parent/growth/growth/grow13m.html, a newborn should gain about 30 grams a day or about 200 grams a week maximum. So in 4 weeks, Gio should have gained a maximum of (30g x 28 days = ) 840 grams.
Gio has gained 2kilos (2,000 grams)!

You have a problem with my weight?

You have a problem with my weight?

Your baby will want between 150ml and 200ml of formula per kilogram of his body weight per day.
